NORTHWEST WORLD REGGAE FESTIVAL 2010

Proudly presented by The Oregon Constant Gardener

Festival Dates & Location:

August 13, 14, 15th 2010                                           FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marcola, Oregon – (20 Miles North of Eugene) At Bob’s Ranch on Mohawk Loop Road

The sixth installment of the Northwest World Reggae Festival (NWWRF) delivers roots musicians from nine countries and three continents. Located 20 minutes north of Eugene, Oregon, in the foothills of the pristine Cascade mountain range, Bob’s Ranch is a private irrigated campground boasting free heated showers, 2+ miles of shady camping, hiking trails and a lush green natural amphitheater with a view for all.

This year, Friday headliners are the Twinkle Brothers, who have recorded over 60 albums on their own label since forming in Jamaica in the seventies and still awe crowds with their captivating harmonies and 12-piece band.

Don Carlos, original member of Black Uhuru and a long standing roots and culture legend from the Waterhouse district of Jamaica, also headlines Friday to promote his new release “Changes.” Saturday features Dezerie, the roots empress hailing from St. Croix and backed by Ron Benjamin and the Midnite Band. Dezierie blends the fire of a warrior and the guidance and protection of a mother in her passionate delivery of her lyrics and message.

Saturday night brings Ozomatli, a highly politicized amalgamation of hip-hop, salsa, funk and dancehall regga. Ozomatli was recently named U.S State Department Cultural Ambassadors and bring their high energy along with Niyorah (St.Croix), Tippa Irie (Great Briton) and more to NWWRF. Sunday brings Garaj Mahal, Humble Soul, Albino!, Marv Ellis, Loveness Wesa and more.  A Latenight DanceHall slated every evening features Northern California, Oregon and Washington MCs & Selechtah’s. This year’s NWWRF hosts are Wisdom and J Ross Parrelli, introducing more than 30 acts from around the world to gather for a heightening musical vibration, raise social awarness and spread the message of love and unity.

NWWRF encourages sustainability and asks fans to bring reusable containers and enjoy natural cascade spring water, available for free all around the site.  Also, “Pitch in and Win” by bringing your recycling to Oregon Waste Free’s sorting station and receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win prizes from their many sponsors.  Refundable bottles and cans are donated to the Marcola Boy Scout chapter.  Recycled kitchen grease and bio-diesel fuel powers the stage, site and trucks. All food waste is composted and wind power is used at our office. The food booths and staff/performer kitchen are organic and local. Through In Ticketing, a tree has been planted for each ticket sold, totalling 12,000 trees over the past four years. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

NWWRF is Family Friendly.  Kid’s Village in the Grove provides a safe environment with a shady arts and crafts area, the Unity Kids Parade and song circles.Youth 14 and under are admitted free and family camping is nestled in a quiet cove.

Family and friends experience the roots of mystical guidance created by sunrise yoga, African dance classes, visual arts, community spirit, conscious music from around the world, delicious organic food, fair trade/sustainable businesses, non-profit organizations and fair trade crafts from more than 50 vendors to inspire your mind and energize your soul.

NWWRF’s success is due to the creative energy, dedication, skills and talents of organizers, staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors and performers.  With the help of major community participation, this annual event continues to inspire the masses to keep coming back!  “The people of Oregon should be proud of what was on display at this year’s festival.”  (Taken from a review of NWWRF 2008 by Daniel Frankston of Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and Ireggae.com) full review.

Don CarlosOfficial Website -Video Clip Video And Music

Don Carlos (born Euvin Spencer) Legendary Reggae Artist – Born and raised in one of the most deprived regions of Western Kingston, Jamaica, in a district notoriously known as Waterhouse – which, incidentally, is a musical spawning ground for many of Reggae’s greatest talents, such as King Tubby, original member of Black Uhuru, The Jays, Junior Reid and King Jammy to name a few. Don Carlos started his singing career back in 1973, as one of the original members of the aforementioned roots vocal group Black Uhuru. Forming a trio with founding members Garth Dennis, who later joined the Wailing Souls, and Derrick Ducky Simpson, Uhuru’s central figure, Don played a prominent role in the recordings of the highly acclaimed 1977 “Love Crisis” album for producer Prince Jammy. That album was later re-released and retitled as “Black Sounds of Freedom.” A year after the trio’s ground breaking debut, Don Carlos surprisingly decided to part company in pursuit of a solo career…..more

The Twinkle Brothers hail from the north coast of Jamaica in the ghettos of Falmouth, the Parish of Trelawny. The two brothers, Norman and Ralston Grant, were baptized in the church of Anglican Diocese. They started singing in the Sunday school choir and at concerts at the ages of six and eight, respectively. At that time they started to make their own instruments since they couldn’t afford to buy them. They made guitars and drums from various tin cans and fishing line…..

After Jamaica received her independence from England in the early sixties, the Twinkle Brothers started to sing in real competitions and are preparing for another Family Reunion Tour this summer. Aptly titled, this tour will feature Ralston’s wife, Della Grant, along with other family members and friends…. more
